Engine
Nissan’s Murano had been on the market for more than 10 years and needed an update, which it received this week with an updated exterior, technology features, and powertrain changes for 2025. Gone is its V-6 for an inline four-cylinder with nine-speed auto, creating 241hp and 260lb-ft of torque compared to its predecessor’s 259hp/260lb-ft combination; fuel economy ratings should improve significantly as well – though EPA estimates are yet to come out yet.
Nissan offers its ProPilot Assist suite as standard equipment on every Murano, which includes adaptive cruise control, high-beam assist and blind spot warning with lane departure intervention. Its new exterior styling is sleeker and muscular than before with flared fenders covering wheels as large as 21 inches; inside, an understated minimalist design delivers soft-touch materials and luxurious features like dual 12.3-inch displays and 64-color ambient lighting; cargo capacity behind its 60/40 split flat-folding second row is generous at 32.9 cu ft when raised or 63.5 cubic ft when folded down;
Transmission
The 2025 Nissan Murano sits on its predecessor’s platform, yet features an all-new powertrain. Gone is its previous V-6, replaced with a 2.0-liter VC-Turbo four-cylinder with 241 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque paired with Nissan’s nine-speed automatic and driving the front wheels in its base SV model; all-wheel drive options are also available.
ProPilot Assist 1.1 provides adaptive cruise control and lane centering features as standard features on every Murano, as well as an undercar camera that displays a stitched-together view of what lies underneath, providing helpful for parking or driving onto automated car washes. In addition, Nissan continues its trend of decluttering its dash by placing all important controls within easy reach, while two 12.3-inch screens handle infotainment and vehicle data – and both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available along with Bose 10-speaker premium audio systems.
Exterior
Nissan says the 2025 Murano features an updated design. Nissan says the Murano features the look and feel of a premium SUV while maintaining an athletic and road-ready stance, thanks to a floating roofline, new body lines flowing from front bumper to rear, larger wheels up to 20 inches housed within flexible fenders, and an ultrathin light bar connecting minimalist taillights.
Nissan Safety Shield 360 has now become part of the standard package. ProPilot Assist, which combines Intelligent Cruise Control with steering assist for highway driving, can be found on SV trim models. In SL and Platinum trims this feature uses navigation data to proactively adjust speed ahead of curves. In addition, an innovative new flat-bottomed steering wheel helps facilitate entry/exit, while driver’s seat offers wider lift and slide adjustments so as to accommodate various physiques; rear occupants also enjoy fatigue-fighting Zero Gravity seats while back doors open wider so they provide easier access into cargo holds.
Interior
The Murano has always been an impressive midsized SUV, but with its updated powertrain and technology upgrades this latest version may be its finest ever. Notably, this 2025 version replaces its V-6 and CVT setup with a 241 horsepower four-cylinder and nine-speed automatic.
The cabin of this vehicle is quite impressive, featuring dual 12.3-inch infotainment screens integrated seamlessly into its dashboard design. These screens serve entertainment and vehicle information with touch panel below the driver’s display providing climate controls; furthermore a push button gear shifter frees up space in the center console.
Standard tech features of the GTC include a three-zone automatic climate control system and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Opting for either the SL or Platinum trims adds ProPilot Assist, which uses navigation information to adjust speeds ahead of curves on planned routes. Additional safety options include 3D surround view camera capabilities as well as Invisible Hood View which lets drivers “see through” engine bay.
